Built Green TM Builder Training Course
Dates: January 26 &27 ,2012

Introduction to the house as a system
-Building science principles, including heat, moisture and air flows in buildings
-Building envelope construction, including advanced framing techniques that save money

This course covers methods to get employees and sub-trades to work together to get the job done on time and on budget while meeting standards for quality and using new and innovative methods and materials. Techniques that will help in planning and scheduling of complex projects, get people working as a team and keeping projects on the path to successful completion are discussed. WHMIS and Residential Construction Waste are also discussed as well as the use of written contracts.

This course will cover the process involved in an effective Sales and Marketing Strategy, from researching the market to opportunities to building a home to meet the exacting needs of the target buyer. All of which results in the final sale of the home to very satisfied customers that sing the praises of the builder/trades/developer/realtor.

NOTE: Early registration is necessary, as this course will involve the advance receipt and completion of workbook and online quizzes and assignments by way of email, as well as the one-day session to review all material and prepare for writing the examination.

Course Content:
� preparing a marketing plan and budget;
� how to use market research to stay ahead of the competition;

Duration:

Construction Law

The Construction Law course will provide answers to questions regarding contracts, risks you are and are not accepting, risk minimizing clauses, issues that could lead to liability disputes, hold-backs and more. A more professional knowledge of the law as it relates to construction projects and building contracts and the creation of legal relationships will be gained.

BC Building Code -Single Family Dwellings

Learn the importance of the BC Building Code, Part 9 and how it was developed. This course will help familiarize students with the code book and teach them how to mark their code book for easy reference.
NOTE: Early registration is necessary, as this course will involve the advance receipt and completion of workbook and online quizzes and assignments by way of email, as well as the one-day session to review all material and prepare for writing the examination.

Course Format:
Upon registration for the course, the course manual will be delivered by regular post, to be completed at their own pace along with the online portion. Any student can email questions to the instructor at any time prior to the course date. The one day in-class session will be used to review all of the material, answer any questions and prepare for the exam in the afternoon.

Duration:
Online home study 40-45 hours with quizzes and assignments which constitutes 50% of the final grade and must be completed at least 21 days prior to the in-class session - see the website for full details on all Policies and Procedures, including our Refund Policy.

The Business Planning and Management course will help both company owners and management improve their understanding of the elements of business planning and management, and how this affects the everyday operations and competitive strategy of the company. Most business owners are not trained professionally in accounting or finance; but given the uncertain nature of business and economic cycles combined with an increasingly rapid rate to technological change, monitoring the financial condition of a business and making sound financial decisions has never been more important. This course addresses the role of a "money manager" and the need for continuous financial management and control.

Three experienced industry trainers present this course in an interactive and entertaining way by the use of group exercises, brainstorming and lectures. You will receive a wealth of instruction material, but perhaps more valuable will be the wide array of tips, experience and other pertinent information that will be shared by the presenters and other renovators and builders in the room.

Marketing & Project Sales for Renovators is a required course to earn the designation of Certified Renovator (CR) for businesses and Registered Renovator Professional (RRP) for individuals. Registered Housing Professional builders who want to earn the RRP Designation only need to take this additional course.

Certified Energy Advisor Training Workshop

This workshop provides training on the use of the HOT2000 software which is used to model house plans within the Built Green TM BC & R-2000 programs. This workshop is for those who wish to become third party advisors to builders building Built Green TM BC homes including certified R-2000 homes. Plan evaluators perform HOT2000 energy analysis of house plans and play a key role in the quality assurance process for labelling Built Green TM Homes and certification of R-2000 houses.

This is a condensed workshop will provide an introduction to EnerGuide for New Houses (EGNH), and operational procedures. Training will be provided on "blower door" test equipment and procedures.

Requirements for participants: demonstrated understanding of building science and construction practice; understanding of residential mechanical systems; access to and familiarity with a laptop computer capable of running the latest version of HOT2000 software, which will be provided to you at the course.

Note: Students will be required to bring their own laptop computer to the class and load the required software. The 2-day Builder Training Workshop is a prerequisite for this course.

Three(3)x $ 500.00 scholarships to be awarded to three graduating students in the Sea to Sky Corridor, pursuing training for a career in the construction industry.

It is important that the applicants submit all the criteria below so that the board has a clear understanding of their intentions & performances.

Please submit the following:

1)A letter of the applicant's experiences and/or intentions regarding a career in the Construction Industry.
2)References from woodworking teachers, councilors or persons involved in the industry.
3)An updated report of the applicant's grades

All applications will be reviewed and awarded by the
CHBA -Sea to Sky Scholarship Committee

A $ 500 Scholarship will be awarded upon receipt of Proof of Registration to the school of the applicant's choice, showing that the student is enrolled in studies to further his or her career in the BUILDING INDUSTRY.
The applicant has 1 year to utilize the scholarship.
